Options
Static IP
Our internet connections provisioned with your own IP address (/30 subnet). This is included as standard.
Reverse DNS change
This is primarally for our clients who host mail servers at their office, each change to your reverse DNS records will be billed at $20 per change.
Relocation to new address
You may relocate your contracted internet connection to another address for $99, this includes all administration work and up to 1 hour of onsite work to help you set up at your new site.
BGP
We support the border gateway protocol on all of our internet connections. This feature is ideal for our clients who host servers or websites at their business premises. Your IP address(es) can be accessed from multiple internet connections, for example, if your primary internet connection goes down your external IP address will continue to work as we automatically re-route traffic via another internet connection such as NBN, fixed-wireless or 4G. A $5/month fee includes the allocation of 6 usable IP addresses and a private AS number. You may bring your own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long does it take to connect the service?
A. It usually takes around 2 hours to activate an NBN service remotely, or if an NBN visit is required (site previously on ADSL) then an NBN tech will attend within 5-10 days.
Q. Why is NBN involved?
A. NBN own the telecommunications cabling (combination of copper and fibre) that connect from your premises back to the exchange. Internet service providers ‘plug in’ to the NBN at the exchange, allowing them to deliver services (like the internet) to their customers.
Q. What do NBN technicians do to connect a service?
A. FTTN: They usually attend a node and re-patch your copper line onto the node (This is usually connected back to the ADSL2 equipment at the exchange, which is now redundant). The new green boxes that have been installed by NBN on footpaths around Newcastle are nodes.
FTTH: NBN will typically patch your fibre back to the exchange and install an NBN box inside your home.
WIRELESS: If you are in a rural area NBN may install an antenna on your roof that points back to the nearest NBN tower.
Q. How long is the contract?
A. 24-months; however, we are committed to ensure you are 100% happy with your NBN service. If we are unable to deliver a quality service we will happily void the contract. Some of our engineers have worked in the industry for 10 or more years, so we are confident we can provide you with the best possible service available in the market.
Q. Do I have to be at the premises on the day of the connection?
A. You will be informed via email when you apply. It depends what work is required to connect your service.
Q. Why should I sign up to the NBN via the Newcastle Connect website?
A. Your service will be supported by passionate Novocastrians over the phone and our qualified on-site engineers. We will optionally attend your premises free of charge to replace your existing phone socket with a brand-new one to improve the speed and reliability of your service. The end result is a faster internet service and quick fault resolution times.
Q. Is your NBN service fast?
A. Our NBN plans are delivered over business-grade infrastructure. This means there is no congestion during peak hours on FTTN, FTTB and FTTH. You will get the fastest possible internet service 24 hours a day. We do not have “Typical Evening Speeds*” like other carriers. You will get the same speed day or night. Your actual speed can depend on your distance from the node for FTTN customers. New clients who are experiencing slow speeds typically notice an immediate improvement when switching to Newcastle Connect.
Q. Is ‘unlimited’ truly unlimited? Or is there shaping if you go over a certain limit?
A. You can download as much as you want on an unlimited plan with no restrictions. This internet connection is for single premises only. It must not be shared with neighbours or re-sold.
How do I pay?
Payment is one month in advance by credit card or direct debit.
